Hindustan Motors (HML), a flagship company of the C K Birla Group and manufacturer of Ambassador, has surged nearly 40% in the last one month and 16% in three days. According to sources, the company has huge land that they will use for construction of commercial properties, townships and auto park.
The company has a plant in Uttarpara in Kolkata, which is engaged in the manufacture of Passenger Cars- Ambassadors, Contessa and Multi Utility Vehicles -Trekker, Porter and Pushpak.
Uttapara plant land is about 770 acres, of which 145 acres will be used for manufacturing operations and the rest 630 acres which is surplus can either be sold or use it for developments.
It has tied up with Shriram Properties (along with Walton Street Capital) for 314 acres (out of 630 acres) land to develop IT township and auto park. Against this land, Hindustan Motors will receive Rs 295 crore and non-compete fee of 4% of the final sales proceed of developed land. The company has already received an amount of Rs 57 crore.
Hind Motors also owns 49% stake in AVTEC, which is engaged in manufacturing of engines and valued at around Rs 1000 crore. The company may sell stake in future and that will fetch around Rs 500 crore.
S P Tulsian of sptulsian.com says, "The company has huge land which will start generating revenues in one to two years' time. It also has a 49% stake in AVTEC, which makes engines for cars and is very profitable company, valued at Rs 1000 crore. So that 49% stake will give value of around Rs 500 crore."
The trading volumes of share increased by 348% to 7,578,306 shares, compared to its 5-day average of 1,691,767 shares and 676% compared to its 30-day average of 976,676 shares. Yesterday it got locked at 20% upper circuit. The current market cap is at Rs 579.41 crore.
The company has other two plants, one is at Tiruvallur in Chennai, which uses for manufacturing Mitsubishi Lancer cars in technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors, Japan and second located at Pithampur in Indore, which used for manufacturing the "RTV" brand of multi utility vehicles, in technical collaboration with OKA Motor Company, Australia.
Hindustan Motors has reported net sales of Rs 140.2 crore and net loss of Rs 9.15 crore. These losses are due to Uttarpara plant, which was under strike from March 13 to May 9, 2007.
In FY07, the company's net sales was at Rs 628.85 crore and net profit at Rs 12.73 crore
