TCS adding 4,000 to global consulting practice department

As a part of its big push into Global Consulting Practice (GCP), TCS will add 4,000 to its consulting headcount in the next three years.

This follows the IT major's mission to be counted amongst the top 10 global IT consulting companies by 2010.

"We want to take on the likes of Accenture and IBMs in the business consulting space as we make a transition from being a trusted IT partner to being a trusted business partner," TCS' GCP vice-president-EMEA Arun Agarwal told ET. The firm has 800 people in pure consulting within TCS currently.

It has however been dipping into the existing IT consulting talent pool within the firm for various projects. A two-year old practice within TCS, GCP has been on a massive recruitment drive in the past two years pulling people from other premier consultancies.

"We have built a 50:50 mix of people, both outside and those from within the ranks of TCS. This mix will be maintained as we add to our headcount in business consulting," Mr Agarwal said.
